Burgundy:
Among the vast rows of heavy metal riders, seemingly masculine with their bold colors and massive engines, one car was an anomaly among the rest.
A pink background with Disney princesses painted on the side, dragster 773 looked as if it was made for a little girl.
And it was.
Burgundy Weathersbee, 12, of Big Bear entered her first dragster for consideration for an award. She had raced the princess-themed car when she was 8 years old.
"I cried before my first race," she said. "But then I went down the track and, after that, I didn't want to stop."
Weathersbee competes in the National Hot Rod Association Junior Drag Racing League. Her princess car went 65 mph and she recently graduated to a more adult-like black racer that maxes out at 75 mph.
"It was scary at first – going that fast just an inch off the ground," she said. "But I just love it."
